Experts share opinions on Guangdong’s approach to Chinese modernization of Education at South China Education Forum
On December 1, the 4th South China Education Forum of SCBC was held as scheduled, where famous experts and scholars gathered to look forward to the future of education modernization and Guangdong's practice in the new era in their discussion on the much-debated topics such as lessons and breakthroughs of Guangdong's education modernization, as well as research and practice of new engineering disciplines in the new era.
Prominent scholars from Guangdong Education Research Institute, National Institute of Education Sciences, and the Chinese Society of Education participated either online or offline in the forum under the theme of “Chinese modernization of Education and Guangdong's Practice in the New Era”. Ding Xiaojun, Chair of the Board of SCBC, Supervisor Gu Yeli, and Vice President Wang Xinjie attended the forum. Wang Xinjie said that as the forum attempted to look into the meaning of Chinese modernization of Education from a new perspective of education practice, and experts and scholars present at the forum offered many useful new solutions to promote the level of education in Guangdong, cultivate high-end talent, and unlock both the internal and external potentials for disciplinary development, faculty development, and student training, it would definitely become a driving force for the development of education in the region.
In the keynote speech session, experts and scholars shared their insights on the prospect of education modernization and Guangdong's practice in the new era, which was highly spoken of as a wonderful academic feast by the participants.
Professor Feng Zengjun, chairman of the Disciplinary Committee on Education Modernization of the Guangdong Society of Education, dean of SCBC’s School of Education, and doctoral supervisor of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, elaborated on the importance of China's education modernization in his speech under the title “Chinese Way: Lessons and Breakthroughs of Education Modernization in Guangdong”. He pointed out that the modernization of education was a process of shifting the goal of education from that of training officials and pedantic elites (serving the minority) to that of training good citizens who have necessary skills and can produce(serving the majority). In his concluding remarks, Prof. Feng commented that this forum, which explored the frontier of China's education development with a focus on Chinese modernization of education and Guangdong’s practice in the new era, was ambitious and quite in touch with the times.
