SCBC holds opening ceremony & military training mobilization rally for undergraduate freshmen of 2022
On the morning of September 12, the opening ceremony and mobilization rally for 2022 freshmen military training was held in the sports ground. Members of SCBC leadership and Comrade Ye Fei, who is a member of the Standing Committee of Baiyun District CPC Committee and political commissar of the District People's Armed Forces Department, attended the ceremony and rally. Also present on the occasion were heads of schools, faculty, divisions, and departments, freshmen counselors, training instructors and all undergraduate freshmen of 2022. Vice President Wang Mingyu presided over the meeting.
Executive President Wang Hua delivered a speech. He expressed a warm welcome to the new students on behalf of all faculty and staff of SCBC. He said that every generation of youth has its own challenges and opportunities, and the freshmen of 2022 are a brave generation who have overcome the challenges in the nearly three years during the Covid-19 pandemic that broke out after their high school started. Now they have finally lived up to the expectations and got enrolled into college where they could fulfill their visions and dreams. This is indeed an important step in their journey of life. He hoped that the freshmen should make good plans for their life and create something of their own in the new era.
Wang Hua believed that going to college marks a beginning of independence in terms of both personal life and social life. Researches show that the years around 20 years of age in one’s life make a critical period in which they form their conception of life, values and the world. That’s why the four years of college is so important. Study in college could be very challenging, too. Students should get rid of certain misconceptions, such as sayings like “one can work hard in high school and relax in college”, so that they can adjust themselves to college life and study as soon as possible.
As to how to make plans for college and create something of their own in this new chapter of life, Wang Hua gave the students the following suggestions: First, one should never stop learning. Students should be diligent in their learning and thinking. Second, virtuous people are never alone. Students should develop themselves to be responsible adults in the collectivist settings in college. Third, only those who stand the test of troubled times are true winners. Students should grow stronger mentally and physically in college so that they can overcome difficulties in the pursuit of success. In the end, to extend his encouragement to the students, Wang Hua quoted a line from a poem, which read “I envy you for your youthfulness, for you are so vigorous, just like the rising sun in the morning”, expressing his expectation that students take the military training as the starting point in college, embrace with great passion and high morale all the challenges in the upcoming wonderful military training life, and show the world this generation of youth their youthfulness, vitality, and resilience.
Miss. Chao Jiayu from the School of English Language and Culture, Wu Haotian, a senior student of Russian Language and Literature from the School of European Languages and Cultures, and Su Yuting, a freshman of Preschool Education major from the International School, spoke respectively as representative of faculty, veteran students, and freshmen.
Xu Zhichao, secretary of the CPC Committee of SCBC, made a speech for the mobilization of military training. He put forward three requirements for the new students. First, they should understand the importance of military training and participate abundantly in the process to achieve the best results. Second, they should obey orders and work hard in the training, for only through hard-work and discipline can they achieve the goals of the drills and live up to the expectations of instructors, parents, and teachers. Third, they should respect the instructors and strictly abide by the training rules, just as real soldiers do during the military training, bravely facing the trials and tribulations and gearing themselves up for new challenges and difficulties. At the same time, he also hoped that the training instructors do their due part as well-trained soldiers and help students in the military training with their physique, knowledge, capability, and discipline, so that they can lay a solid foundation for their four years of college life and their future contribution to building the country.
Comrade Ye Fei, member of the Standing Committee of Baiyun District CPC Committee and political member of the District People's Armed Forces Department, spoke on behalf of the training unit. He believed that the military trainees would meet the challenges with full vigor and a spirit of never falling behind, and complete all the tasks successfully as expected by their parents and teachers.
In the end, Wang Hua announced the start of the military training and awarded regimental flags to the military training groups. After the rally, as each platoon of new students was led by the instructors to the sports ground, the military training officially kicked off.
