Luo Yuming wins second prize in the National Collegiate Russian Language Contest
On April 23-24, the semi-final and the final of the 14th National Collegiate Russian Language Contest 2021 was held online by Dalian University of Foreign Studies. Luo Yuming, a junior of Russian Language from the School of European Languages and Cultures, won a second prize in the junior and senior group, ranking sixth in the national final with a total score of 83.795. His supervisors were Yu Fengying, Yan Qiuju and foreign teacher Е. В. Yasinovskaya (Ясиновская Е. В. ).
The competition was divided into three rounds: the preliminary round was a written test which focused on testing the contestants’ basic knowledge of the Russian language and the general knowledge of the Russian Federation; the semi-final included a proposition speech and an oral presentation; and the final round was a Russian-Chinese consecutive interpretation competition. A total of 390 students from 150 colleges and universities participated in this year's competition. 60 students were shortlisted after the preliminary round and competed in the two-day semi-final and final rounds in three different groups: the freshman and sophomore group, the junior and senior group, and the graduate group.
As one of the five major institutionalized projects in the field of humanistic cooperation between Russia and China, the National Collegiate Russian Language Contest is the only national foreign language competition organized by the Ministry of Education in China. It is also the most difficult, most extensive and most prestigious national Russian language competition in China. The excellent performance of Luo Yuming, a student from the Department of Russian Language and Culture, is evident that the School of European Languages and Cultures has made progress in its drive to boost quality education, an important notion that runs deep in SCBC’s core values of “comprehensive knowledge, sophisticated expertise, excellent foreign language proficiency and strong practical skills”.
