It is reported that the Center for Polar and Oceanic Studies of Tongji University was established in September 2009. The Center has been the first academic institution in China to conduct comprehensive and thematic research on such issues on the Arctic and Antarctic regions as international politics, law, security, society, environment, economy and China's polar initiatives and policies. The Center, with its intent to promote interdisciplinary research that integrates liberal arts and science, has achieved abundant research results thanks to Tongji University's advantages in marine science research, environmental science and other scientific disciplines.
