Established by Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and ratified by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, South China Business College (SCBC) of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS) is a privately supported independent institution of higher education. It offers a variety of undergraduate programs with a commitment to excellence in teaching, learning and developing leaders.
SCBC covers an area of more than 900-mu (more than 150 acres) in Baiyun District, and it is conveniently located close to Highway G105 (Guangzhou-Conghua Highway) in the historical city of Guangzhou—the political, economic and cultural center of South China.
The College is home to picturesque wooded areas, lush greenery, fresh air, emerald waters, gentle hills, exquisite gardens and elegant surroundings. Thanks to its well-qualified faculty, strict teaching management, fully-equipped teaching facilities and its uplifting environment, the College provides a healthy and innovative life to the students, making SCBC an ideal place for the young aspiring leaders to pursue their studies and goals.

Based on this solid academic structure, the College offers 39 undergraduate programs: English, Business English, Translation, Japanese, Arabic, Korean, Thai, French, German, Spanish, Russian, Portuguese, International Trade and Economics, E-commerce, International Business, Finance, Economics, Investment, Taxation, Economic Statistics, Financial Engineering, Business Economics, Accounting, Logistics Management, Marketing, Tourism Management, Financial Management, Exhibition Economy and Management, Human Resource Management, Hotel Management, Chinese Language and Literature, Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages, Applied Linguistics, Computer Science and Technology, Digital Media Technology, Software Engineering, Network Engineering, Internet of Things Engineering, Preschool Education, which fall into five discipline categories—Literature, Economics, Management, Engineering and Education. The full-time student population is nearly 10,000.
SCBC’s prominent reputation is strengthened by important scientific research platforms, such as the Center of Polar Studies approved by the Ministry of Education (as a member of China-Nordic Arctic Research Center) and the Airport Economy Collaborative Innovation Research Center (provincial level). It also has two provincial-level characteristic key disciplines—English Language and Literature, and International Trade. SCBC attaches great importance to building a rigorous, high-level teaching team in order to achieve excellence in research capability. Currently, professors, associate professors, and faculty with academic titles of the same levels account for 36.5% of the total educators’ number. Faculty and members with doctoral degrees account for 21.3%, and those who hold masters’ degrees account for 89.7%. Furthermore, those with the experiences of studying and/or working abroad account for over one third.
In accordance with the College’s core values “comprehensive knowledge, sophisticated expertise, foreign language proficiency and practical skills”, SCBC is dedicated to cultivating professional foundation to educate application-and-innovation-featured students for achieving high morality, substantial expertise, strong practical ability, proficiency of one or more foreign languages, and competence for international cooperation and competition. Giving priority to foreign languages is a notable education trait of SCBC, which offers 12 foreign language programs, more than any other privately supported independent colleges in Guangdong Province. Moreover, it keeps promoting the interdisciplinary programs of “foreign language + specialty” and “specialty + foreign language” by offering bilingual immersion courses for non-English majors and the 2+2 International Credit Transfer Programs for Accounting, International Business and Finance majors.
In response to the needs of an increasingly globalized economy, SCBC has taken the initiative to seek exchange and cooperation opportunities with overseas counterparts, so that it can create more innovative business professionals with international vision and well-acquainted with international rules and practices in the fields as Finance, Trade and Accounting. SCBC has founded cooperative partnership with more than 60 colleges, universities, and academic institutions in 21 countries and regions, including the US, the UK, Australia, Canada, Russia, Spain, Ireland, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Lithuania, the Republic of Korea, Japan and Egypt. The students are provided with convenient access to overseas studies during their college life and after graduation, including research visit, student exchange program, and credit transfer.
Adhering to the socialist educational orientation, carrying out the state education policy and following GDUFS’s motto “Moral integrity, exemplary behavior, and conversance with both Eastern and Western learning” and the law of higher education, SCBC has kept optimizing its disciplinary structure, as well as improving its educational framework and quality. In pursuance of its educational philosophy “faculty as the foundation, students as the center, morality as the primacy and distinctive features as the strategy for the growth”, SCBC is striving to turn itself into a high-level college with foreign-language-oriented features in order to make contributions to the regional economic development and social progress of Guangdong Province.
