Students from School of Information Science and Technology Win Prizes in Competitions
Several students from School of Information Science and Technology have done excellently well and won several prizes in both provincial and national competitions.
Chen Jingyuan, Hou Junyi, and Lin Xi won a first prize in the Guangdong final of National Computer Design Competition held at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies on May 25. The documentary, Decoration Techniques of Pingyao Push Light Lacquer, filed by the three students majoring in Digital Media Technology with Ms. Gan Yanfen as their supervisor, had stood out and been recommended by the panelists to compete in the national final to be held at Zhejiang Conservatory of Music this August. After preliminary selection and final competition, there are 78 first prize, 158 second prize, and 217 third prize winners coming out of 1307 competing teams.
The final results of the 10th “Lanqiao Cup”National Collegiate Visual Arts & Design Competition also came out lately. Lin Xi of Class 2017 of Digital Media Technology won a national third prize and a provincial first prize with a series of design work entitled “Funny Encounters between East and West”, and Chen Jialiang of the same class and major won a provicial third prize with his “Modern Interpretation of Ancient Rhymes”.
Li Guoliang Claims Grand Prize in Provincial English Writing Competition for Undergraduates
Li Guoliang, a junior student of English translation from the School of English Language and Culture, claimed a grand prize, his score ranking in the top two in the final of the 6th ”Lianmeng Cup” Guangdong English Writing Competition for Undergraduates held in South China University of Technology on June 1. Xie Yiping, a senior of English language, won a second prize, ranking No. 24 among contestants of English majors. Zheng Xinting and Lin Manxue, both a sophomore majoring respectively in Exhibition Management and Marketing, won a first prize and a second prize, ranking No. 19 and No. 57 among contestants of non-English majors.
Their extraordinary success, which partly is a result of SCBC’s effort to encourage students to learn and practice foreign languages anytime and anywhere, has been an evidence of the fact that SCBC has distinctive strengths in foreign language education and puts its emphasis on student’s ability to use the languages.
The four prize-winning students were respectively supervised by Xie Zhen, Lan Yu, Li Dandan, and Lin Xuehua.
