Liu Jing Wins First Prize at National Japanese Speaking Competition
Liu Jing from the School of Asian Languages and Cultures won a first prize at the 14th All-China Japanese Speaking Competition (South China Region) held at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies on May 26.
After fierce competition, 30 outstanding students from 30 colleges and universities in Guangdong, Fujian, Guangxi and Hainan entered the regional final that included a propositional speech and an impromptu speech. Liu Jing competed with the contestants from famous universities such as Sun Yat-Sen University, Xiamen University and Guangdong University of Foreign Studies.
For the propositional speech, the contestants were required to deliver speeches on one of the two topics: My View on the Olympic spirit--2020 Tokyo & 2022 Beijing and My Advice for China-Japan Youth Exchange Promotion. Liu Jing gave her take on the first topic by drawing on her personal experience. For the impromptu session, she started her speech with a reference to the rules of this competition to clarify her understanding of competition and rule-abiding action. Her calm demeanor, fluent oral Japanese, and excellent impromptu responses had impressed the judges and won her a first prize.
Dragon Boat Race: Fast and Furious
Students, faculty and staff were celebrating the Dragon Boat Festival by enthusiastically participating in the 9th Dragon Boat Race of South China Business College held on May 29-30 at the Yuelong Lake. Dragon boat race is a time-honored, mass-participation, and recreational activity of folk culture. From the excitement at the first try with oars in the lake, to the hard work during the training, and to the team synergy in the competition, every participant has experienced in the race an upbeat and enterprising spirit that is at the heart of the sport’s traditional charm and huge influence even to this day. Happy Children’s Day! Celebration Held for the Kids of Staff & Faculty
The stage layout changed to one featured with innocent happiness and humor for children, the cheerful and joyful music in the background, the parents and kids in matching outfits beaming with shining smiles on their faces, these were all that you would see when you walked along the Culture Plaza on June 1. In the parent-child activity themed by “My Childhood at SCBC”, the faculty and staff were able to take their spouses and kids to the beautiful campus and enjoyed a great time together as a celebration for the International Children’s Day.
