SCBC Association for Science and Technology Inaugurated
The Association for Science and Technology of South China Business College, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies was inaugurated on the afternoon of May 23.
In the ceremony, a plaque was unveiled to mark the official establishment of the Association jointly by Feng Riguang, vice-president and member of the CPC committee of Guangdong Association for Science and Technology (GAST), also secretary of the CPC committee directly under the GAST authority, Deng Liyi, president of Baiyun District Association for Science and Technology, Li Dong, vice-president and secretary of the CPC committee of South China Business College, and He Aibing, vice-president of South China Business College.
Executive Vice President Lai Zhili said that the SCBC Association for Science and Technology has taken on the task of uniting all researchers and academicians at SCBC to promote scientific and technological innovation so as to make contributions to optimizing academic structure, improving the quality and level of education, and building a high-level private university with distinctive foreign language features.
As a private university with a focus on foreign language education, South China Business College houses several important research centers, including the Center for Polar Research under the Ministry of Education and the provincial-level Collaboration & Innovation Center for Airport Economy. Its program of English Language and Literature and program of International Trade have been approved as key undergraduate programs in Guangdong province.
According to its Charter, SCBC Association for Science and Technology is a non-governmental academic organization. It serves as a bridge between the CPC committee and the managerial leadership of SCBC and its researchers and academicians. Its mission is to promote the development and popularization of science and technology and the growth and improvement of scientific and technical personnel at SCBC.
Han Kaiyun Breaks 50-meter Backstroke Record in Collegiate Swimming Competition
From May 14-20, a team of seven swimmers were striving for medals to honor their university SCBC at the 10th Provincial Collegiate Swimming Competition held at the swimming stadium of South China Normal University, a quadrennial swimming race organized by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education and the Guangdong Provincial Sports Bureau. Over 1125 male and female athletes from 56 colleges and universities in the province were competing in the various events in the race.
In individual events, Han Kaiyun championed in both the 50-meter and 100-meter backstrokes for women, with her time of 33″98 in the former breaking the Collegiate record of 34″03 that had been kept for 20 years since the 1999 Collegiate Swimming Tournament in Shenzhen. Yu Chaozhi ranked the fifth in the 50-meter backstroke and the eighth in the 50-meter freestyle for men. Wang Weixin won a sixth place in the 50-meter breaststroke for women.
As for group events, Wang Weixin, Han Kaiyun, Wang Hao and Yu Chaozhi won a bronze medal in the 4x50-meter freestyle mixed relay; Wang Weixin, Han Kaiyun, Yu Chaozhi and Zhang Qiliang made the sixth in the 4x50-meter medley mixed relay.
Li Dong, secretary of the CPC committee of South China Business College, received the Sportsmanship Award for team leaders, Peng Zehua, the Sportsmanship Award for coaches, and Wang Weixin and Han Kaiyun, the Sportsmanship Award for athletes.
The Sixth SCBC Teaching Competition: A Showcase for the Art of Teaching
On the afternoon of May 23, the 6th SCBC Teaching Competition was held at C201 in the presence of Vice President Wang Xinjie and Vice President Zhao Chen.
After the preliminary competitions and rematches organized by the various schools and divisions, 11 teachers stands out to make it to the final. The contesting teachers have made sufficient preparations for this competition, thanks to the good support and guidance from their respective schools and divisions. With a passion for teaching, every one of them has demonstrated the best of their reservoirs of skills in the 15 minutes on the podium.
With five successes since 2010, SCBC has turned this biannual teaching competition into a platform for teachers to share teaching experience and showcase teaching skills, as well as a brand activity of its own to inspire the whole faculty to be more enthusiastic and innovative in teaching and research. The college will continue to hold this type of competition as part of its effort to strengthen the training of fledgling young teachers and help improve the overall quality of its undergraduate education.
