16 Students of Spanish Interpret for 2019 Spanish Tourism Promotion
16 juniors of Spanish language from the School of European Languages and Cultures have been applauded for their excellent interpreting jobs done for the 2019 Spanish Tourism Promotion recently held by the tourism office of the Spanish Consulate General in Guangzhou and supported by China International Travel Service, Guangdong.
In the promotion, representatives from Spain gave detailed presentations about their rich tourism resources and product information to the present Chinese tourism agencies from Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao. The students worked as their interpreters to bridge the language barrier and ensure effective communication achieved between the Spanish and the Chinese.
Multiple off-campus internship projects have been completed since the agreement of building practice base signed in 2015 between the School of European Languages and Cultures and China International Travel Service, Guangdong. One of the student interpreters said work experience like this would expose students’ weakest links as they tried to apply what they had learned into practice, and thus help them get clearer goals and directions for their future efforts in learning the language.
400 High School Students & Teachers Experience Career Education At SCBC
On April 12, 120 students and teachers from Pok Oi Hospital Chan Kai Memorial College and 300 others from Guangzhou Da Tung High School came to South China Business College for a glimpse of career education in college. The activities include an lesson to exploring future careers, a campus tour, and an experience of life in college. The event, initiated by SCBC, is aimed to consolidate information resources for better communication and cooperation between high schools and higher institutions as part of the effort to fulfill the fundamental mission of education to cultivate virtuous and upright citizens.
Executive Vice-President Lai Zhili said SCBC would like to join hands with high schools to work on career education to help students set up correct outlook on the world, life and values, or “fasten the first button of life”, and turn them into successors of the endeavor of building a socialist country in the new era.
Zheng Zhihong, assistant director of the Division of Recruitment and Career Development as SCBC, gave a lecture on exploring future careers for the high-schoolers, showing them how to develop a career plan based on a thorough consideration of their professional interest, disposition, capabilities and values.
Accompanied by volunteer guides, the students enjoyed a tour around the many attractions of the campus, including the golf course, the administration building and the adjacent pond, the training room for students of finance, and the garden. Despite the moderate rain, the high-spirited students all took a lot of memorable shots with their phones.
For these high-schoolers who are pressed with college entrance exams soon and will have to make important decisions on colleges and programs, this timely visit to SCBC has opened a window for them to the exuberance of college life. According to Yuan Minxiang, principal of Guangzhou Da Tung High School, the experience has offered a great opportunity for students not only to understand better the cultures of Hong Kong and Guangzhou, but also to have a closer look at the teaching and learning process in college, which is extremely helpful for students’ decision-making.
