SCBC Pioneers as the First Private University in Guangdong to Host A Center for Polar Research
On December 28, the Center for Polar Research, registered in the filing system of the Regional and National Studies of the Ministry of Education, was inaugurated at Room C202 of South China Business College, Guangdong Universality of Foreign Studies. This was regarded as a breakthrough in SCBC’s efforts to improve its scientific research platform. Taking full advantage of SCBC’s advantages in teaching and research, the Center will place the country’s strategic needs on the top of its agenda and the coordination of the basic theoretic research and practical strategy at its focus. It will strive to become one of the influential pools of talents, information and high intelligence with disciplinary excellence, serving SCBC’s purpose of cultivating international and specialized personnel.
The Center was unveiled by Li Jinjun, director of Exchange and Cooperation Division, Department of Education of Guangdong Province, Luo Lin, head of the secretariat of the Regional and National Studies of the Ministry of Education, Lai Zhili, executive vice president of SCBC, and Yang Li, vice president of SCBC. Also present at the ceremony were Xin Benjian, editor in chief of the domestic division of the People’s Daily and Gu Yeli, supervisor of SCBC.
The SCBC Center for Polar Research identified five preliminary research fields: Arctic nations research, polar environment protection and international cooperation mechanism, Arctic and Antarctic sea routes, economy and trade; and cultural exchange and preservation in polar regions. The Center will facilitate the cultivation of talents and improve their level of research through creating opportunities for outstanding teachers and researchers to participate in academic projects, overseas visits and studies programs, and academic conferences in polar research. At the same time, as part of SCBC’s efforts to improve its education quality, there will be student exchange programs through which students will be selected to exchange and study in arctic nations.
SCBC Delegation Visits Universities in Russia, Initiating New Model of Cooperation
Recently Chairman Ding Xiaojun of SCBC led a delegation to visit three universities in Russia and made significant progress in developing new model of cooperation.
The three universities that the delegation visited were Saint Petersburg State University, Herzen State Pedagogical University, and Moscow State Pedagogical University. During the visit, Mr. Ding introduced the characteristics of SCBC and proposed to establish cooperation and exchange with these universities. According to the preliminary agreements reached by SCBC and the universities, beginning from 2018, SCBC will establish formal ties with the universities and send its students to study for either 3, 6 or 12 months; Outstanding students will continue to study at the post-graduate level after they pass placement exams; and there will be also short-term academic exchange and study programs for teachers between SCBC and the universities.
