Three SCBC Students to Teach Chinese as Volunteers in Thailand
On May 18th, three 2012 graduates of SCBC's School of Chinese Language and Culture, Yuhan Liu, Wanxiu Liu, and Shumin Liu, were selected to teach Chinese in Thailand as volunteers for a length of one year.
In Guangdong province, a total of 50 individuals were selected via testing to volunteer in Thailand. The criteria for such selection are quite stringent as prospective college graduates, graduate students, teaching faculty, and retired faculty should be skilled in communicating in a foreign language, be knowledgeable in discussing cross-cultural topics, be qualified to teach Chinese, be specialized to showcase an aspect of Chinese culture, be able to speak standard Mandarin at or above Level 2 proficiency. Volunteers who go to other countries in Asia, Africa, or Latin America must achieve Level 4 competency in English, a score of at least 425 or equivalent, and/or have sufficient capability in a foreign language.
Chinese language teaching volunteers usually stay abroad for one year, however, those who pass certain examinations can apply for an extension of stay for a maximum of three years. According to the relevant provisions of the state, Chinese language teaching volunteers will be offered the state financial subsidies and subsidies of under-developed areas
SCBC Students at the Challenge Cup-Discovering Youth 2016
Start-Up Competition Earn 2 Silver and 8 Bronze Medals
From May 20th-22nd, the 2016 Challenge Cup-Discovering Youth Start-Up Competition was held in Dongguan, Guangdong, where college students from across the province gathered to compete. SCBC students in the championship rounds earned two silver and eight bronze medals, respectively.
This event was sponsored by the following organizations: Provincial Youth League Committee, Provincial Ministry of Education, Provincial Bureau of Science and Technology, Provincial Bureauof Human Resources, Provincial Association of Scientists, Provincial Student Association, and the municipality of Dongguan. Since this past March, Guangdong had a total of 102 institutions of higher education participate in this event where 1313 works have been submitted, and 383 of them were judged by panelists for the final evaluation.
