SCBC Faculty of Department of Translation Studies
Paid Academic Visits to 3 Hongkong Universities
 
  Faculty of the Department of Translation Studies, School of English Language and Culture, paid academic visits to three Hongkong universities -- Lingnan University of Hongkong , the Hong Kong Polytech University and the Chinese University of Hongkong on September 29th and 30th. The visits had been scheduled for the purpose of academic exchanging and consulting in the areas of training programs of translation professionals, curriculum and subject setting, establishment of the translation practice and internship base, research in translation studies and the career planning for students of translation majors.
 
 
 
 
SCBC TEM-4 Pass Rate Above the Country’s Average 5 Years in a Row
 
  Results of the National Test for English Majors-Band 4 (TEM-4) has been announced recently and test takers from School of English Language and Culture, SCBC once again set the historic record with the pass rate of 67.83% which counts for 30.65 percentage points higher than that of independent colleges and 16.04 points higher than ordinary universities all over the country. It is a wonderful achievement that SCBC TEM-4 pass rate has been above the country’s average for 5 consecutive years.
 
  TEM-4 is a sophomore English proficiency test for English majors, one of the pivotal evaluation criteria for English major education in China.
 
 
Distinguished Professor of Macao University Visits SCBC
 
  Shoutong Zhu, a distinguished professor and director of the Chinese Department of Macao University visited SCBS on the morning of October 8th. Zhili Lai, executive vice president and Kuanghan Xiong, vice president, together with the director and professors of the Chinese department of SCBC, received the guests in Room 309 of the administration building, where topics and issues are discussed in regard to training programs and teaching of Chinese for the majors in higher education.
 
  At the meeting, Zhili Lai introduced to the guests the profile of our college, saying that the SCBC, as an independent college with its feature of emphasizing foreign language education, had been attaching great importance to international cooperation and exchange. Nearly 60 universities from 14 countries and regions have currently established cooperative relations with it.  He hoped that this visit could be an opportunity to initiate cooperation between the two sides in terms of academic research, teacher training and student exchange.
 
 
  Han Xiong Kuang said that the mainland China and Macau shared the same cultural root.  Along with the deepening of the exchanges of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions, the SCBC hopes to have more exchanges to inherit this tradition of Chinese culture with Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Schools in Chinese majors of higher education.
 
  Prof. Zhu put forward their own ideas as regard to the exchanges between the two departments. He hoped the two schools to start exchange lectures. As for teacher exchanges, he suggested carrying out small special symposiums to promote the professional learning and communication; in terms of student exchanges, he hopes two schools organize students to carry out exchanges, so as to strengthen linkages between the two schools through their direct interaction among students.
 
  Prof. Zhu lectured on "Literature and Life" for students of Department of Chinese language and literature, in C202 multifunctional conference hall on the afternoon of October 8.
