Record High Pass Rate of PGG at SCBC
Recently, the result of Prnfungfnrdas Germanistik-Grundstudium (PGG) 2014 has been released. 45 out of 61 German Language majors from Grade 2012 passed the exam with the first-time pass rate reaching 73.8%, a record high in the history of SCBC. 8 of these students successfully hit the Excellent Grade and 17 the Good Grade. The average pass rate of PGG this year at SCBC is 36.8% higher than the national average of the colleges of the same type, 14.8% higher than that of public ordinary universities, and is close to that of key universities (89%). 34 students from Grade 2011 also took this exam, whose result of this year is much better than last year, with 18 of them passing the test.
SCBC Students Rendered Voluntary Services to Korea Week in Guangdong
On September 20 and 21, over 40 students from the Department of Korean Language and Culture, School of Asian Languages and Cultures served as volunteers in the Korean Cultural Feast of Korea Week in Guangdong. The event provided various performances featuring Chinese and Korean cultures, activities of Korean culture experiences and a street full of Korean cuisine. These students volunteered for such services as traffic control, monitoring the performing sites, ushering the entertainers, distributing discount coupons for activities and assisting Korean businesses in their charity sales.
Teacher from UIMP Exchanged Experience at SCBC
On September 22, Vicky, a Spanish teacher from Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo (UIMP), arrived at SCBC for scholarly exchange.
During her 3-day visit, Vicky exchanged teaching methods as well as information about education and teaching in Spain through meetings with teachers and students, auditing classes and briefing sessions, which helped her know more about Chinese culture and differences between China and the West in pedagogy.
SCBC Student Went to Kenya for Voluntary Teaching
Recruited by the International Volunteer Headquarters (IVHQ), Wang Xiaofan, a student from Class 1 (English immersed Class) of the Department of International Economics and Trade, School of International Economics and Finance, volunteered to teach in the village Naivasha in rural Kenya, Africa in 2014 summer vacation. The one-month teaching not only rendered Wang a happy, enriched and meaningful vacation, but also offered him a better understanding of the true meaning in “giving is better than taking”.
