Students as Simultaneous Interpreters at Japanese Teaching Seminar
On June 19, a seminar on Japanese language teaching was held at the Simultaneous Interpreting Lab by the Faculty of Asian Languages and Cultures. The working language for the seminar was Japanese and six students from the Innovative Simultaneous Interpreting Class worked as simultaneous interpreters for the occasion. At the seminar, the participants shared candidly with each other their teaching experience and their understanding of Japanese language acquisition, cultural significance and psychological implication. The student interpreters sat at their places, taking notes from time to time, concentrated throughout the seminar. They had fulfilled their roles as interpreters to facilitate effective communication.
Liang Menghua Wins A Third Prize at Translation Competition
Recently, Liang Menghua, a junior student of English translation from the Faculty of English Language and Culture, was awarded a third prize in translation in the Fifth Guangdong Collegiate Translation & Interpreting Competition held at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. Nearly 90 students from colleges and universities in the Province took part in the Translation competition, in which they were required to translate two English passages and two Chinese passages respectively about “test-tube babies”, “aging problem in Japan”, “employment problem for college graduates” and “the prospect of Wang Lao Ji”. Thanks to her good translation skills and language proficiency, Liang was able to claim a third prize in the competition.
2014 Commencement Ceremony at SCBC
On the morning of June 21, 1731 SCBC graduates were conferred bachelor’s degree at the 2014 Commencement and Diploma Ceremony held at the Business Plaza. All the graduates of 2014 and their families gathered at SCBC to witness the solemn moment of their college life. At the ceremony, 148 graduates were awarded honorary certificates for Excellent Honors Degree. In groups all the degree candidates went up to the stage to receive diploma certificates and congratulations from President Xu Zhenhua and officiating professors, who gave them a warm handshake and shifted the tassels on their caps to the left as a symbol of graduation.
