Oriental Cultures Presentation Contest Held at SCBC

 

     On April 23, the Oriental Cultures Presentation Contest, organized by the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures, was held in Room F105. The contestants presented to the audience the architectures, cuisines, folk arts and religions of many Oriental countries, such as Japan, India and Egypt. Finally, Zhong Xiaowen won the contest with a brilliant presentation of “Peking Opera, China’s National Treasure”.

 

 


The 4th Model United Nations Conference on Marine Resources Management


     On April 24, the 4th model United Nations conference was held in Room F204 where 40 delegates representing 13 countries, including China, Britain, France, Russia, America, Japan, Singapore and so on gathered to share their views on marine resources management. In the process, the representatives of their own “countries” tried to solve disputes through communication and friendly cooperation and to defend their “national interests” by lobbying and negotiation. Finally, to promote international cooperation, the model UN conference agreed on a meaningful resolution to the problem.

 

 

 

The 3rd Japanese Recitation Contest Held at SCBC

 

     The 3rd Japanese Recitation Contest was held in Room G105 by the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures on April 25. After the preliminary selection, 22 students went to the final competition. The judges evaluated the students’ pronunciation and intonation in their recitation of a Japanese passage drew from the two prepared by the organizer. Finally, Lu Jiahong from Class 1 Grade 2013 of Japanese language major won the fierce competition.

 

 

 

Vice President of Thomson Rivers University Visits SCBC


     On April 28, Ms. Baihua Chadwick, Vice President of Thomson Rivers University in Canada, led a delegation to visit SCBC and was welcomed by Vice President Wang Xinjie. The two sides exchanged ideas on future cooperation in such projects as the designated exchange for students and short-term training for teachers.

 

 


Prof. Shozo Naito from KCGI in Japan Visits SCBC


     On April 29, Prof. Shozo Naito from Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics (KCGI) led a delegation to visit SCBC and was welcomed by Mr. Yang Jianjun, director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Division. The two sides discussed and reached a preliminary agreement on the cooperation in the “3+2”accelerated bachelor and master degrees program. They also further exchanged ideas on the specifics of the project such as curriculum, requirements for language proficiency and tuition fees.
