New Degree Program in Convention Economy and Management Approved for SCBC
According to the Announcement of 2012 Review or Approval Results of New Academic Programs for Colleges and Universities (No.4, 2013) recently released by China’s Ministry of Education, the program of Convention Exhibition Economy and Management was approved for SCBC and made the 23rd degree program at the college’s academic structure. Foreseeing the market demand for well-trained professionals in convention and exhibition industry, SCBC set up a specialty under the program of International Business in 2007, underscoring the college’s commitment to business programs as its prominent feature. Now with a fairy strong faculty and rich pedagogical resources after several years of development, SCBC is ready to recruit freshmen in the new major this September.
Students Win Awards at 2014 College English Speech Contest
On March 22, Prof. Zhang Hengzhen, head of the Department of College English, attended the Council Meeting of National College English Collaboration for Colleges and Universities of Foreign Languages held at Sichuan International Studies University and exchanged college English teaching experience with other experts. The College English Speech Contest was also held along with the occasion. SCBC students Zhang Yin and Zeng Jiaqi respectively won a second and a third prize in the competition.
Zhu Jing Wins Second Prize at “21st Century Cup” National English Speaking Contest (National Final)
Zhu Jing won a second prize at National Final of the 19th “21st Century·Coco Cola Cup” National English Speaking Contest held at the Centenary Hall of Peking University from March 22 to 24. In the contest, Zhu, a junior from SCBC’s Department of English Language and Culture and the only contestant from independent colleges in this year’s national final, had to compete with 73 speakers from 18 contest zones nationwide.
SCBC Send 17 Students Off to Study in Japan
On March 24, SCBC held a send-off party for 17 students from the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures who would leave for Japan for studies the next day. They will exchange or study in different Japanese universities. Specifically, Zhang Yuming together with another 12 students will spend one year at Yokohama College of Commerce, Liu Aihua and another two will exchange at Hokkaido Bunkyo University for a year, and Ren Weihao will study at Communication and Business College.
SCBC’s International Friendly Football Game
On the afternoon of March 26, a friendly football game was held between Staff Team and “International Team” made up of foreign teachers and students. The Staff Team ended the game with 3-0 win over the International Team.
Dr.Şule KIRKIK from Celal Bayar University in Turkey Exchanges at SCBC
Recently, Dr.Şule KIRKIK, Associate Professor from Celal Bayar University and director of Banking & Insurance of Ahmetli Vocational School, came to SCBC for a short-term exchange from March 24 to 31. During this week, Dr.Şule KIRKIK, as the third exchange teacher in this semester from Celal Bayar University, will be engaged in a series of activities, including lectures on financial issues for students from the Department of Finance.
Officer from U.S. Consulate General Guangzhou Gives Tips on Job Interviews
On March 27, Michael Gragun, Management Section Chief of U.S. Consulate General Guangzhou gave a talk on “Job Interviews in America” in Lecture Hall F101. In his talk, Mr. Gragun enumerated the frequently-asked-questions in job interviews and gave tips on answering them. He also encouraged students to accumulate experience of job interview by trying more themselves.
