SCBC Moving Up in Overall Strength Rankings Nationwide
According to the Chinese Independent College Ranking recently released by Wu Shulian, leader of China University Ranking Research Group, SCBC’s position has moved up 39 places this year, ranking as No. 45 out of 322 independent colleges nationwide.
The assessment of a university’s overall strength is based on two categories: talent cultivation and academic research. SCBC has scored better on both categories this year, placing it on the higher rungs of the ladder. Specifically, SCBC has ranked 10th nationwide in quality of undergraduates (second in Guangdong independent colleges), 21st in quality of freshmen, and 25th in innovation of teachers.
Representative from University of Buenos Aires Visits SCBC
Recently, Mr. Zhao from the China Office of the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina paid a visit to SCBC. The two sides exchanged talks about each other’s institution, characteristics and international cooperation. Mr. Zhao introduced the “China-Argentina Centurial Educational Project” designed to promote academic exchanges between the two countries, and emphasized the many advantages of studying in Argentina. Later, the two sides discussed the possibility of cooperation in several projects for SCBC students to pursue overseas experience in Argentina, such as Spanish language programs, overseas internships, post-graduate or further study programs as well as winter/summer camps.
Spanish Language Teacher Exchanges in Celaya University in Mexico
On March 6, Zhu Xuewen, a Spanish language teacher from the Department of European Languages and Cultures set off for the University of Celaya in Mexico on an exchange mission for one month. As the first exchange teacher from SCBC to Mexico, Mr. Zhu was warmly welcomed by the University’s President. They also had a conversation about the cooperation and exchanges between the two sides in the meeting. During the exchange, Mr. Zhu will give a series of lectures on the topic of “Chinese Culture and Customs” to students at the University.
Vice-Rector of Huddersfield University in Britain Visits SCBC
On March 7, Prof. Dave Taylor, Vice-Rector of the University of Huddersfield in the UK, headed a delegation to visit SCBC. In the meeting, the two sides introduced their own institution, characteristics and international exchanges. According to Mr. Taylor, the University of Huddersfield upholds an educational philosophy that emphasizes both theory and practice. It encourages students to learn from practical trainings which might inspire them to develop their future careers.
Professors from Nagoya University Lecture at SCBC
On March 9, Associate Professor Yasushi Sugimura and five professors from Nagoya University in Japan came to exchange at SCBC. After a brief preliminary meeting, the guests gave lectures on “Chinese and Japanese Languages and Cultures” in Room F101. In the morning and the afternoon sessions, the six foreign experts respectively presented their own understandings of language and culture, specifically with regard to Chinese and Japanese cultures, literatures and grammars. Thanks to their humorous speeches, the students present were all fascinated by the charm of Japanese cultures.
Ms. Tamara Rodil Guadrado from Nebrija University in Spain Visits SCBC
Ms. Tamara Rodil Guadrodo, director of International Programs of the University of Nebrija in Spain, came to visit SCBC and discussed the feasibility of the “3+1+1” Spanish Language Program that allowed SCBC students to study at the University of Nebrija for recognized master’s degrees.
An Active Learning Experience with Lynn Hall from Huddersfield University, UK
On March 13, Ms. Lynn Hall from the University of Huddersfield in Britain gave a lecture entitled “ Student-Centred Learning-Experiencing active learning” in Room F105. She organized the students to build a tower with ordinary straws. With this group activity she tried to help them understand that everyone in a team should know their own position so that they could take advantage of their potential and win as a team.
Representatives from Osaka University of Economics and Law in Japan Visits SCBC
Headed by Yun Eun-Cheol, a delegation from Osaka University of Economics and Law in Japan visited SCBC on March 13. The two sides exchanged ideas on such projects as Students Practice in Japan, Teachers Exchange and “2+2” Programs in the meeting. Both agreed to build stronger ties between the two institutions through high-level cooperation in various areas.
