Prizes won at the First Lingnan Cup English Writing Contest


     Two SCBC students were awarded prizes at the First Lingnan Cup English Writing Contest held in Guangzhou on December 7. Chen Weiqin from the Department of International Trade and Economics was a third prize winner for non-English majors, and Lin Yiliang from the Department of English Language and Culture won an award of excellence for English majors. 
   



Zhu Jing Wins National English Speaking Competition Regional Final (Guangdong) 

     On December 7, the 19th China Daily “21st Century Coca-Cola Cup” National English Speaking Competition Regional Final (Guangdong) was held at Sun Yat-sen University. Zhu Jing from the Department of English Language and Culture outshone all other finalists in the prepared speech session on the topic of “University as I see it”, and finally triumphed in the competition with her excellent command of English language as well as witty response and impressive manners on the stage. Adored and applauded by all the audience and judges, she claimed the title of “Coca-Cola Cultural Ambassador”. Next year, Zhu will represent Guangdong college students to speak in the national semi-final. 
   



Wang Jian Awarded Third Prize at National Interpreting Contest (South China Final)

     On December 7, the 3rd National English Interpreting Contest South China Final was held at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. Wang Jian from the Department of English Language and Culture won a third prize in the competition, thanks to his outstanding performance in both English to Chinese and Chinese to English interpreting sessions. 




The Fourth “Interviews with Foreign Teachers” Final Held at SCBC

     Recently, the 4th “Interviews with Foreign Teachers” Final was held by the Department of European Languages and Cultures in Room G101.The interviews, with the theme of “Happy Talks in Foreign Languages” this year, were planned, hosted, filmed and edited in the past two months by groups of students respectively of various languages, including German, French, Spanish, and English. By talking with foreign teachers in the interviews, the students had a better understanding of cultural differences between China and the West.  




   
Magoshi Yukio from Kyushu Foreign Language Academy in Japan Visits SCBC

     On December 11, Mr. Magoshi Yukio, representative of Kyushu Foreign Language Academy in Japan, led a delegation to visit SCBC and was welcomed by Vice President Lai Zhili at the Honor Hall of the Administrative Building. In the meeting, the two sides agreed to cooperate and discussed several specific issues with regard to building partnership.
