Former Ambassador to Syria Talks about Syrian Situation
    

      On November 28, the 30th section of SCBC's “Liberal Arts Forum” invited Ms. Zhou Xiuhua, former ambassador to Syria, to talk about “Syrian Situation” at Lecture Hall C201. With many years of work and life in the Middle East, Ms. Zhou gave a clear overview of the country as well as an introduction to the national conditions and people's life there. The former ambassador also presented the timeline of the generally-concerned political turmoil to explain the turns and twists of the current complex situation in Syria, dating back to the “Arab Spring”.   

 

 


SCBC Holds Guangdong Job Fair for College Graduates of 2014


     On November 28, the Conghua Section of Guangdong Job Fair for College Graduates of 2014 was held at SCBC. Nearly 5000 senior students from universities and colleges around Conghua District came to compete for more than 3500 jobs in the areas of administration, commerce, business management, finance and accounting, foreign languages, offered by over 150 enterprises mostly from the Pearl River Delta region. This year saw more employment opportunities in small languages at the Job Fair, with some companies even advertising high wages up to RMB 8,000 yuan per month as sales assistants to attract talented applicants.

 

 

 

Dr. Atalay Gündüz from Celal Bayar University Lectures at SCBC
    

     Recently, Dr. Atalay Gündüz, assistant professor, director of Foreign Language Research and Application Center, and associate chair of the English Language and Literature Department at Celal Bayar University in Turkey, had come to exchange at SCBC. From November 21 to 30, Mr. Gündüz was engaged in a series of exchange activities, including lectures on “English Drama” for students from the Department of English Language and Culture, free talks at English Corner, lectures on Turkish culture, etc..

 

 


Award of Excellence Won at the 3rd CRI National Arabic Speaking Contest


     Recently, Chen Jinggao, a Grade 2012 student of Arabic language from the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures, had made his way to the final of the 3rd CRI National Arabic Speaking Contest for College Students held at Beijing Language and Culture University and won himself an Award of Excellence for sophomore students. This is the first time that SCBC students of Arabic language have qualified in the final of a national Arabic speaking competition.

 

 


The First Russian Recitation Contest Held at SCBC

       
     On the evening of November 26, the first Russian Recitation Contest of SCBC was held in Room E206 by the Department of European Languages and Cultures. After the first round, twelve Grade 2013 students of Russian language made the final, in which they competed against one another with regard to the accuracy, fluency and emotional expression in reading the passages that were randomly chosen for them. Finally, Wang Ningge championed in the competition with his beautiful pronunciation.   

 


English Space Time: the Fun of English Crafts
         

      Organized by the Department of College English, “English Space Time” invited Ms. Rose, a foreign teacher at SCBC to host a new section featured “English Crafts” on November 19. After an introduction of the origin and development of English crafts, Ms. Rose showed the students in the audience how to make English greeting cards. She encouraged them to be creative and enjoy the fun of making craftworks.
