Mr. Rodríguez from Alcalá University Visits SCBC
On October 23, Rafael Martín Rodríguez, delegate in chief of the Asian Office of Alcalá University in Spain, visited SCBC and met with Vice President Xiong Kuanghan. The two sides held talks on the exchange of teachers and several related issues. Started several years ago, the cooperation and exchange between SCBC and Alcalá University has been fruitful. Now about SCBC 50 students have been able to study at Alcalá University. In order to further increase the academic and cultural communication, Mr. Xiong proposed that the two sides should build an innovative exchange mechanism to create more opportunities for students to study abroad.
SCBC Opens Chinese Language Course for Foreign Teachers
On October 22, SCBC’s foreign teachers took the first lesson of a Chinese language course specially designed for them. The “teachers” of the course, two students of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, will teach the foreigners basic Chinese twice a week to help them enjoy a better campus life at SCBC. In the first lesson, the “teachers” created a lively atmosphere for study, and the “students” also showed great interest in learning Chinese.
Richard Tan from University of Southern Queensland Visits SCBC
On the morning of October 22, Richard Tan, a representative from the University of Southern Queensland in Australia, led a delegation to visit SCBC and was welcomed by Executive Vice President Yuan Changqing. The two sides had an in-depth discussion on the “2+2 articulation program”. Mr. Yuan told the guests that SCBC has established cooperation partnership with 55 overseas universities or academic institutions. He was hopeful that with this as a starting point, the two sides would gradually increase the exchanges and eventually share their teaching and learning resources. Richard Tan, who was appreciative of SCBC’s proposal of cooperation, assured that international students in Australia have access to the same educational resources as the local students do.
Representatives from University of the Incarnate Word Visits SCBC
On October 21, Mr. Fu Chengye, manager of the China Office of the University of the Incarnate Word in America, led a delegation to visit SCBC and met with Executive Vice President Yuan Changqing. Mr. Yuan introduced SCBC to the guests, particularly its foreign language studies and business disciplines, the two characteristics that help ensure the foreign language proficiency and intercultural competence of SCBC students. He also expressed the hope of enhanced cooperation and exchanges with the University. Mr. Fu agreed that the two sides should increase the exchanges of teachers and students in the future.
Ms. Seden Önsoy from Celal Bayar University in Turkey Lectures at SCBC
Recently, Ms.Seden Önsoy, an exchange teacher from Celal Bayar University in Turkey, arrived at SCBC for a short-term exchange. From October 19 to December 29, Ms. Önsoy will deliver a series of exchange activities for SCBC teachers and students, such as tutoring at English Listening & Speaking course, giving English lectures, and supervising English competition, etc.. President Xu Zhenhua and Executive Vice President Yuan Changqing met with Ms. Önsoy and extended a warm welcome to her. Impressed by Chinese students’ respect for teachers and China’s great culture, Ms. Önsoy said she looked forward to more interaction and communication with SCBC teachers and students.
Fantastic Dramas on Famous Characters in World Literature
On October 17, the final of Drama Competition on Famous Characters in World Literature, an activity organized by the Department of English Language and Culture as a part of the 7th Campus Culture & Arts Festival, was held at the Business Plaza. In the competition, six groups of performers reproduced the most memorable episodes of six famous literary works, among which My Fair Lady, Camel Xiangzi, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, and Othello were included. With super acting, the fourth group showed the misery of the tragic characters in Thunderstorm. Their excellent performance touched the judges and the audience and finally made them the champion of the competition.
English-Only Talk: A Close Look at Green Technologies
Organized by the Department of College English, a new section of English-only talk featured “The Green Technologies” was held lately in Room 302 with foreign teacher Ben as the speaker. In the lecture, Ben explained that given the increasingly severe situation of environmental problems, the development of green technologies was inevitable. Today, the environment-friendly technologies have taken on different forms. At the end of his talk, Ben encouraged students to fight together for a better world.
