Deputy Dean of University of Technology Sydney Visits SCBC 


     On October 17, Professor Tracy Taylor, deputy dean of Business School at University of Technology Sydney, and Ricky Niu, senior manager of the University’s China Office, paid a visit to SCBC and were welcomed by Vice President Lai Zhili. In the meeting, Mr. l.ai told the guests that SCBC, a university characterized with foreign language studies, has always attached great importance to exchanges and cooperation with foreign counterparts.
   


     The two sides discussed the possible collaboration on the “2+2 articulation programs” for SCBC students and reached a preliminary agreement. With such a good beginning, said Mr. Lai, he was hopeful that the two sides would gradually increase the exchanges and eventually be able to share teaching and learning resources with each other.
      


Cultural Promo Competition: A Good Taste of Different Cultures 


     On the evening of October 15, the Cultural Promo Competition featured by “A Wonderful World Revealed in Cultures”, as one of the events for the 7th Campus Culture & Arts Festival, was unveiled in the Lecture Hall F101 with foreign teachers of different cultural backgrounds on the judge panel, including Spanish teacher Antonio, German teacher Chau Ho, and English teacher Rose. Contestants presented in videos the uniqueness of various cultures from different perspectives, which also showcased their language skills and creativeness.
   


   
The Fourth “Gimcheon Cup” Korean Language Speaking Contest Held at SCBC


     On October 10, the fourth “Gimcheon Cup” Korean language speaking contest, a competition for students of Korean languages at SCBC, was held in Room C201. After rounds of selections, 18 contestants, of whom 16 were Korean language majors and two minors, ran up to the final and showed the judges and the audience their excellent language and speech skills. Thanks to the outstanding performance in the two sections of topic speech and Q&A, Cai Yingsi of Grade 2010 and Chen Jiaqing of Grade 2012 won the first prizes for the Senior group and the Sophomore group respectively.
   
  

 

 
Japanese Teachers and Students at Japanese Culture Festival 


     On October 13, several teachers and students of Japanese language from SCBC went to Guangzhou Garden Hotel for a Japanese Culture Festival organized by Japanese General-Consulate in Guangzhou. The activities at the Festival, such as  Japanese fencing performance, Chado (Japanese Tea Ceremony), Japanese cuisine, Wafuku (Japanese Clothing), and lectures on Japanese anime and Ryokan cultures, were intimately linked to Japanese culture. Besides, free consultancy with regard to travel and study in Japan was also available there. This was SCBC’s second participation at this annual Japanese Cultural Festival, as the only independent college invited to the occasion.

 

 


SCBC Students Win First Prize at National Network Business Innovation Competition (Guangdong &Guangxi Region)

 

     As the curtains fell on the Sixth “PSBC CUP” National College Network Business Innovation Competition for Guangdong & Guangxi provincial competition zone, the team “E Shines Nanguo” from SCBC won a first prize and thus got a ticket to the National Final to be held in Beijing. In the competition, their brilliant project of “CST” (City SIM Traffic Transport) Card that proposed a One-card-for-all idea had earned favorable comments from the judges. Besides, four other SCBC student teams, named respectively “Five Show”, “Shuangwaiwai”, “Coffee with Milk” and “Flying Pigs”, were awarded third prizes, which brought SCBC an award of “Excellent Organizer”.
