Dean from Anhalt University of Applied Sciences Visits SCBC

 

  On June 27, Prof. Flemmig, Prof. Donner, and Prof. Cornelia Scott, who are respectively dean and vice dean of the Department of Economics, and director of Master of Business Administration (MBA) Program from Anhalt University of Applied Sciences in Germany, came to visit SCBC. According to Prof. Cornelia Scott, the University’s MBA program was founded in 1998 with English as the sole medium of instruction. It has developed an internationalized faculty and earned accreditations from authoritative international organizations in the field. In the meeting, the two sides had a thorough discussion on the details of prospective cooperation.

 

 


Dr. Harris from University of Huddersfiled in Britain Visits SCBC

 

  On June 26, Dr. Ann Harris, head of the Department of Community and International Education, and Mr. Peter Chen, director of China Office from the University of Huddersfield in Britain, paid a visit to SCBC. In the meeting, Dr. Harris gave a brief presentation of the University, including its faculty, students, programs and its educational characteristics. Particularly, the University offers “sandwich courses”, through which students can take part in paid internship projects in business and commerce. Thanks to such experiences, graduates are more competitive in the job market and the employment rates are thus very satisfactory. After a thorough discussion, the two sides arrived at a preliminary agreement on the cooperation of “3+1” and “2+2” double-major programs, and postgraduate programs.

 

 

 


SCBC Students Win Prizes at Guangdong Collegiate Swimming Championship 
   


  Organized by Guangdong Provincial Department of Education, the 2013 Guangdong Swimming Championship for College Students was held at the Natatorium of South China Normal University on June 22 and 23. SCBC swimming team achieved excellent results in the competition against swimmers from 30 colleges and universities in the province. All the swimmers, four boys and two girls, were able to make top eight in all the events in which they competed. Particularly, Ye Muqing’s extraordinary performance won him the champion in Men’s 200 Meters Butterfly.

 

 

 


Dr. Lázaro from University of Zaragoza in Spain Visits SCBC

 

  On June 21, Dr. Regina Lázaro, vice-rector for International Relations from the University of Zaragoza in Spain, led a delegation to visit SCBC. According to the vice-rector, the University of Zaragoza is a comprehensive university with a history of over 500 years. Providing education in a wide range of subjects and disciplines for both home and international students, it has established partnerships with over 100 foreign colleges and universities in the world. After an in-depth discussion on the details of exchange student program, the two sides reached an agreement and signed a memorandum of cooperation.

 

 


The 2nd German Debate Contest Held at SCBC

 

  Sponsored by the Department of European Languages and Cultures, SCBC’s 2nd German Debate Contest was held on June 20, with Jan, a foreign teacher from Germany, as one of the judges. In the five sections of opening statement, questioning, summary, free debate, and closing statement, the debaters showcased their rich knowledge about the topic and outstanding German speaking skills in the intense competition. After the final battle in the contest, the affirmative stood out as “The Best Debate Team”, and Luo Shengnan won the title of “The Best Debater”

 

 


All Students in the First Intl Innovation Class Admitted to Overseas Universities

 

  Now the students in the 2011 International Innovation Class have completed the two-year studies at SCBC. Of the 25 students, two have gone to study abroad before the two-year period was due; six have returned to their original classes because of personal reasons; and the remaining 17 students have been admitted to SCBC’s international partner institutions. Particularly, four students have received two offers from universities in America and Canada respectively. In September, all these students will start another two-year period of studies at overseas universities. 
 

  This is the first international class for business studies at SCBC. Students study at SCBC for the first two years with focus on their mastery of disciplinary foundations and foreign language skills. The courses designed and taught at SCBC are guided by the educational philosophy and course system of partner institutions. Students are required to complete 60 credits in the first two years at SCBC, and another 60 credits in the next two years at partner institutions. With credits earned, transferred and articulated between SCBC and partner institutions, students will be awarded graduation and degree certificates at SCBC and degree certificate at partner institutions if they meet the requirements of graduation.

 

  The foreign counterparts in such “2+2” articulation agreements with SCBC include Duquesne University and Bellevue University in America, the University of West England in Britain, St. Mary’s University in Canada, Deakin University in Australia, etc.. The cooperation with several more foreign colleges and universities is in the process of negotiation.


  In 2013, the “2+2” articulated programs for Accounting and International Business have been included in “2013 Specialties Catalogue for College Enrollment in Guangdong Province”, with an admission plan of 30 students.
