Three Undergraduate Majors Approved for SCBC
According to the 2013 No.4 Higher-learning Document the Announcement of 2012 Review or Approval Results of New Majors for Colleges and Universities recently released by China’s Ministry of Education, three undergraduate majors of Translation, Russian Language, and Financial Management have been approved for SCBC, making the College the first and only independent college in Guangdong Province to hold Translation and Russian majors. At present, SCBC confers B.A. degrees in four primary disciplines involving literature, economics, management and engineering that cover 22 undergraduate majors, 10 of which are related to such foreign languages as English, Business English, Translation, French, German, Spanish, Russian, Japanese, Korean, and Arabic.
English Space Time Shows You How to Book Hotel Rooms
“English Space Time”, a feature series by the Department of College English, was launched on April 9, with Diab, a foreign teacher, as the first lecturer to talk about “Booking a Hotel Room” to the audience. In the presentation, Diab showed the students how to book a hotel room and explained the useful expressions and frequently-asked questions from hotel customers. Later, the students took part in a role-play activity to practise what they had just learnt with the foreign teacher. For this semester, there will be five events in the “English Space Time” series.
The 7th Mock Commodities Fair Unveiled
The opening ceremony for the 7th Mock Commodities Fair was held on April 9 at the Business Plaza of SCBC. Organized by the Department of International Trade and Economics, the 2-day Mock Commodities Fair offers 47 booths where student enterpreneurs are engaged in the business of clothing, ornaments, computer accessories and other products.
Dr. Xu Zhenhua Inaugurated as President of SCBC
Dr. Xu Zhenhua, a professor of French, former secretary of CPC Committee and president of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, was appointed and inaugurated as President of SCBC at the Leadership Meeting held on April 10 in Room F101, where present were all the leaders above or of the administrative and teaching sections leading positions as deputy chiefs. In his inauguration speech, Dr. Xu identified the challenges before SCBC and proposed several fundamental ideas in the search of solutions. He also encouraged the whole faculty to seize the moment and work hard to build SCBC into a high-quality teaching university with distinctive characteristics in foreign languages and prominent advantages in business studies.
The Opening of Technology Festival & Associations Cultural Events Month
On April 11, the 3rd Technology Festival & the 6th Students Associations Cultural Events Month was unveiled by a gala evening, where various student associations of SCBC showed their youth and vitality through amazing innovative programs on the stage. Under the theme of “Youth, Passion, Vitality”, there are 16 events for this Festival held between April and May this year, which fall into four catagories of competitions, scientific and technical activities, academic projects, and variety.
