Prof. Peter Nicholls Discusses Pedagogy with Teachers
 
On December 3, Prof. Peter Nicholls, who is delegated by the University of West England to SCBC for short-term exchange, presented a lecture about “The Relations between History and Employment Relationship” to all English and bilingual(English & Chinese)teachers of SCBC. In the lecture, Prof. Nicholls made an analysis of the development of employment relationship during the Industrial Revolution from a historical perspective, especially through the history of Britain in the 18th century.
 
 
On December 4, a pedagogical seminar was held between Prof. Nicholls and SCBC’s English and bilingual teachers at Room C202. Prof. Nicholls shared his insights with the teachers on such issues as classroom teaching and interaction, preparing for overseas study, and differences of teaching methods between the East and the West.
 
 
Professors from Hokkaido Bunkyo University in Japan Interviews SCBC Students
 
On December 4, two professors from the Hokkaido Bunkyo University of Japan visited SCBC and exchanged ideas on mutual cooperation in the future with Mr. Liang Xiaoqi, director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Division. Later, the two sides held an examination and interview for the eight applicants for exchange-student program in the Hokkaido Bunkyo University, of whom the most outstanding ones will be studying in the University on tuition-free basis for a year.
 
 
Foreign Students Experience Chinese Culture at Lingnan Impression Park
 
Recently, foreign students in SCBC have had a closer genuine feel of Lingnan Culture when the “Experiencing Chinese Culture after Class” series brought them to Guangzhou Lingnan Impression Park. The students were fascinated by the stories of “comb sisters”, “cormorant” and “law court” of Lingnan culture, and put down reviews of what they have learnt in this visit. Meanwhile, in order to enhance their understanding of Chinese culture, they managed to speak in Mandarin Chinese through the whole trip.  
 
 
 
Representative from Cheongju University in South Korea Visits SCBC
 
On December 5, Mr. Jung Ji Sub, director of the International Affairs Office of Cheongju University in South Korea, visited SCBC. This was the first contact between the two parties. Mr. Jung said that Cheongju University attaches great importance to the cultivation and employment prospects for Chinese students and wishes to promote mutual understanding and cooperation with SCBC. The two sides exchanged opinions on different issues, including mutual exchange programs, mutual recognition of credits, and further studies programs.
 
 
 
Ms. Chane from University of California, San Diego Visits SCBC
 
On December 6, Ms. Etran Chane, director of the International Affairs Office of the University of California (UC), San Diego, headed a delegation to visit SCBC. Mr. Peng Zhifang, educational inspector of SCBC, talked about the Sino-US differences of education systems with the guests and expressed the hope of building cooperation with such an elite institution as the University of California. According to Ms. Chane, UC San Diego, as one of the most famous public universities in the US, is also a leading research institution in the world. Its alumni have won twenty Nobel Prizes, nine of whom still work at the university. After exchanging ideas on the credit transfer and curriculum design, both sides agreed to speed up mutual cooperation through closer contacts and negotiation.
