Representatives from SCBC Visits Indian Consulate General in Guangzhou
Recently, Prof. Gao Xiongfei, director of the Department of Common Courses Teaching, Mr. Liang Xiaoqi, director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Division, and other representatives from SCBC had paid a visit to India’s Consulate General in Guangzhou and met with Consul General Mr. Indra Mani Pandey.
Mr. Pandey welcomed the guests from SCBC. He said that China and India shared a lot in common as they were two of the world’s four ancient civilizations with rich and glorious cultures, but in terms of non-official cultural exchange and cooperation, there was still great room for improvement for the two countries. He believed that SCBC, as a foreign-language-oriented higher-learning institution in China’s educational industry, also shared the social responsibility to inherit and develop traditional cultures and communicate them to the world. Mr Liang said that he expected more discussions of cultural phenomena and philosophical ideas with the Consul General when the two parties created more opportunities in the cultural and educational exchanges.
SCBC Exchange Students Selection Kicks off
In recent days, SCBC has started the selection procedures of exchange programs for the academic year 2012-2013. The qualified students will take part in different forms of overseas study programs at SCBC’s or their own expenses in 14 universities in 7 foreign countries.
The overseas universities in cooperation with SCBC are Bellevue University and Duquesne University in America, University of the West of England in the UK, Saint Mary’s University in Canada, Anhalt University of Applied Sciences in Germany, ESC de Toulouse and ESC-Rennes School of Business in France, University of Alcala, University of Salamanca and University of Castilla-La Mancha in Spain, and J.F. Oberlin University, Hokkaido Bunkyo University, Sapporo University and Sochi Japanese Institute Kobe in Japan.
The overseas study programs are available in various forms for candidates from sophomore to senior years, including short-term exchange programs, double-major credit projects, post-graduate programs, and preparatory courses for post-graduate studies, etc..
Representatives from Kun Shan University in Taiwan Visits SCBC
On October 10, Dr. Wey Tzuu-Shaang, dean of the International College and head of the Office International Affairs, and Dr. Chen Lung-Chuan, director of the Center for Extended Education and associate professor of the Department of Materials Engineering, headed a delegation to visit SCBC. Dr. Wey introduced the history, educational philosophy and students of Kun Shan University in his speech. Vice president Lai Zhili of SCBC said that Kun Shan University had been very successful in teaching practical skills to students and SCBC should learn from their experience.
The Third “Gimcheon Cup” Korean Language Speaking Contest Held in SCBC
On October 10, the third “Gimcheon Cup” Korean language speaking contest of SCBC was held in Lecture Hall C201 with Prof. David Lee, deputy director of the International Affairs Office of Gimcheon University in South Korea, Oh JongHyuk, section chief from the same office, and Vice-president Lai Zhili of SCBC as judges. The prepared speech and Q&A sections of the contest were designed to challenge the contestants’ Korean language competence. The 16 students’ confident performances and brilliant speeches were well-received and recognized by the judges and the audiences. After the fierce competition, Liu Xueyi of Grade 2009 and Li Haiting of Grade 2011 won the first prizes for junior-grade group and senior-grade group respectively.
Returned Exchange Students of Korean Major Share Overseas Experiences
On October 11, a sharing meeting of overseas study experiences in South Korea, entitled “Dreams Initiated in SCBC Come True”, was held in Room F303. At the meeting, representatives of Grade 2009 exchange students in South Korea shared their experiences of study and life in South Korea through vivid pictures and videos. In August 2011, 32 Grade 2009 students of Korean major started their studies in South Korea as exchange students on tuition-free basis, ten of whom also received allowances from SCBC’s Study Abroad Foundation with a maximum amount of RMB 20,000 Yuan per year. These students have finished their one-year studies in 8 Korean Universities, including Sookmyung Women’s University, Daejin University, Pai Chai University, Sangmyung University, Gimcheon University, Kangnam University, Hoseo University, and Chung Yuan Christian University.
Vice President of CUCA in Canada Visits SCBC
On October 11, Dr. Manfred Zeuch, executive vice-president of Concordia University College of Alberta (CUCA), accompanied by Mr. Jean-Philippe Davignon, vice consul of Consulate General of Canada in Guangzhou, paid a visit to SCBC. In the meeting, Dr. Zeuch introduced the educational investment, scientific research and development, and student’s studies and employment prospects of CUCA as well as the situation of Alberta Province in Canada. As Canada has always attached great importance to the educational cooperation with China, he hoped that the two sides could enhance cooperation to achieve the goal of “sending 100,000 exchange students reciprocally” through different ways. His first trip to China enabled him to have a closer personal look on China’s higher education and he believed that his visit to SCBC would be a good starting point for mutual cooperations in the future.
