A team of three: Fang Jiawen (Carmen), Chen Jianhao (Joseph) and Zhu Jing (Anne) brought honor to South China Business College, particularly to the Department of English Language and Western Culture, by ranking SECOND in the final round of University Students English Proficiency Contest, an annual Science and Technology Academic Festival of Guangdong University Students. SCBC team bested others coming from universities in the province while Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, the mother University of SCBC, topped them all.
The organizer received around a hundred video presentations and selected 58 semi-finalists. The selection process was tough, but SCBC Team landed in the FINAL 10. The Press Conference Simulation capped the competition held at a GDUFS Auditorium in the afternoon of June 2. Various socio-economic issues with international breadth evoked wide range of knowledge, creativity and language proficiencies as each team articulated respective topics in another 2-minute speech with PPT, translation and question and answer portion.
One GDUFS team got the First Prize. Though SCBC shared the Second Prize with another team from GDUFS, and Foshan University, website news released by the organizer confirmed the rank of SCBC as SECOND, at the heels of GDUFS for the coveted First Prize. Six teams shared the Third Prize: Jinan U, Guangzhou U, Guangdong U of Petrochemical Technology, Guangdong Ocean U, South China U of Technology and Jilin U/Zhuhai College.
Coach-cum-trainers of SCBC team were teachers Pu Ping and Faith. Faith observed that English language competency of SCBC students is already at par with, if not higher than, standards of some universities in the province, and probably, in the entire country.
